Cosmic Reversal

This game is a submission for the GMTK Game Jam 2023.

*NOTE: Player speed is not capped as I would have wanted. Recommendation for playing is to move somewhat slowly. Going too fast can be fun but dangerous!*

Survive and score as many points as possible versus infinite enemies in Cosmic Reversal.

Shoot down enemy ships as they approach. However, be aware! On a timer the "Roles Reverse" and suddenly the hunter becomes the hunted: During this time, they'll fire at you instead, but out manoeuvre them and ram into them for lots of points!

Controls:
WASD for movement
SPACEBAR to shoot

this is a very fun idea! An asteroids type game where you actually do have to ram into the enemies sometimes, it challenges the conventions you would expect for sure.

The sprite work is positively lovely, I adore how all the ships and the space background look! I found the gameplay very engaging, but it takes some getting used to due to how different the concept is from the norm. Though I guess that's part of the point of the jam either way!

Thank you for the positive comments! The gameplay is indeed somewhat difficult, but I believe holds a good skill-ceiling also. Needing time to get used to it is understandable! Glad you had fun with it.

My review of the game, it's simple, and it's fun. I played this using the arrow keys while using spacebar which I found worked like a charm, the game is a bit tricky with it's movements, but I think the movement is kinda what makes the game as fun as it is frustrating. If you can master the movements then you can master getting those hits in by ramming into them, and don't expect being able to cheese in this game as believe me I have tried, the map is a square, that is decently big, enough room for moving around and kiting the enemies. You can't go past the map, but the enemies can, they just ignore the invisible forcefild, and spawn at the outskirts, meaning you can't camp at the corners when shooting enemies. Which is a nice clever thing to force you on the run constantly, being still is death. But going to fast is also death. My only complaint that I would have, is that it would have been nice being able to have some powerups/upgrades in the game, a bit more simple game mechanics to use, like smother control of the ship, or being able to dash quickly on whichever direction you would chose, so you can kite around slinging yourself, getting behind the enemy and dashing to ram them. But if I'm going to rate this game it will def be a 4 out of 5 for me. The game is fun as it is and great to chalange yourself.

Thanks for the review and advice for future players seeking to use the map borders as a "safe haven". Power-ups or upgrades are definitely something I would want to have added, but couldn't in the timeframe of the jam.
